I have the connection, Orson - it's the 'close viewing of five clues which will lead to a location' that I'm struggling with. Time for a bit of grid-staring!
Thanks jacknatter, makes more sense than my effort. And thanks too to Malone and Orson, I can see a French connection...something to with casino I guess ?
can anyone give me a clue as to what five clues I am looking for? I had the grid completed a while ago and the earlier posts confirmed I was on the right track. But as to how to proceed.....
I can't get the end game yet either, malone. However, the preamble talks of "close" viewing and that word appears in three of the clues and its opposite in another. That's my line of thought at the moment.
In the middle two columns, there are two four-letter words side by side which seem to have some relevance. But I think I'll give this a rest for a while.
Muraria, thanks - but I think I am way behind you! I still have no idea why the unclued entries would lead me to certain clues, nor do I have any understanding of some of the answers (2 Down for example - I see the wordplay, but no definition).
