The solution indicated by the wordplay in each of the 26 clues is lacking a required letter. Each letter of the alphabet is missing from a particular clue, though in three cases it is missing twice and in one case three times.

1. There is surely some ambiguity here. In the first sentence Soup says that a letter is missing from each solution yet in the second that the letter(s) is (are) missing from a particular clue. If it is the latter then it would be possible that wordplay may result in a single letter (eg in 7, 8, 20, 21).

2. There are twenty-six clues but we have 4ac and 4d. What does the setter mean by Each letter of the alphabet is missing from a particular clue?

I may wait for confirmation.

hi ffannie. just got 161. I think each of the 26 clues needs an extra letter (or 2 or 3) added to the word play (different for each clue). I have got a couple - check 25a and 20d (easy I think :-)).

Is there a problem with the instructions or have I overlooked something? I have 4 missing letters in one ( like you) and 4 solutions missing 2 letters ( and not 3 as per instructions) and no instance of missing 3 letters...

Maybe I have just lost the ability to add up...

Ixion, I have completed the puzzle and I also have 3 words with the same letter missing twice, and one word where the same letter is missing FOUR times, not 3, as stated in the instructions.

Corrected on site now...it is 4 with the same letter twice (I'd managed to miss one) and one with the same letter four times.

As you appear to be a Mr ( or Mrs) fixit, can anything be done to improve the quality of the Genius print-out? The grid's really little, with blurred numbers and the font size of the questions unhelpfully small.

Minor gripes aside, I enjoyed the puzzle and admired its devices - so thank you to Soup

For several months when the printable version wasn't available I reconstructed the Genius crossword using spereadsheet & WP software. Now it is available even if not ideal I don't bother as I used to throw it together very quickly without checking my work and thereby risking silly mistakes.

Sometimes you can make the print image larger before printing. Going to File Print (avoiding the printer symbol) then Printer Properties, Page Setup.

Finished, a good one. One query - 2dn - got the answer but can't completely parse it. Where's "supporter"? The F?
