Thanks Kirky, obvious now - I decided that queen was a chess piece, so man but wasn't happy with it.

Four left. I have an answer for 21D - I add a letter to 'Close' but the definition is to sell, not a sale. is this correct?

i am sure you are right - that letter was the only one left when I checked it with the others

Pendragon...my old Chambers also gives it as a n. sale, amount sold.

Stuck on a few, any pointers appreciated.

2d - the "o" is wrong, defn part is relief
3d - the "s" is wrong, defn part is trembled
15a - fictional "paradise"

Curious- I hit 'reply to this post' but it looks like everything just goes chronologically. Oh well. I don't mind hints at all - I merely set up the game, and it's up to individual solvers how they want to play it!
