These so-called "shortlists" just seem to be getting longer, and it's not getting any easier to choose a favourite. Welcome, Smirnoffbabe. Your excellent acrostic at #41 was on that list, and you've given me some food for thought. (I'm considering changing my forum name to "lagerstudmuffin").

Eventually narrowed things down to three, I.e. #5 Paul, #26 Binge and the one I'm voting for

My 2 against the field have jws's great pdm anagrind @ 39 just being touched off by aristo @ 14 (love the definition which seamlessly followis on thematically from the "ents" wordplay)

@ skyewalker; I imagine quite a few think binge is probably more appropriate.

Haven't checked my numbers closely but it looks as though we have 44 entries from 17 setters. I chose Gradients for its wealth of anagram potential and was hoping to see Art & Design figure somewhere. Thanks to all who took part

With 15 votes already cast - just waiting for Les and SmirnoffBabe I think, we have a clear winner..

1 vote - Binge@26, Mattrom@50 Smirnoff@41 and Seamus@19
2 votes - Skye@28, Paul@5 and Aristo@14

but with a stonking 5 votes, this week's deserving winner is JWS with

Banks refuse strange ID (9)

Congrats and enjoy your prize..
