Thanks for all the entries. I had a blast parsing them even if they all don't get a specific mention.
Of the straight anagrams and homophones stevea's @ 35 and fiery's @ 10 respectively are my picks.
My shortlist has 2 clues combining very good wordplay with pdm definitions, namely paul @ 15 & mattrom @ 23, skyewalker 's lateral thinking @ 8 and BBM2'S great misdirection @ 21.
I had to Google the man in question to find out he is a gymnast and topically is in the news, this week's winner is fiery @ 11 with

Fears Louis Smith would collapse if his deficiency is seen on the floor
