Hi again folks that's time called so no more entries.
I'm going to give ixion a bit longer to comment as I'd hate to exclude his clue should it be my error. If anyone else can assist please feel free to do so.
I would like to say that with 4 vowels and an "unhelpful" "m" I thought wordplay would be difficult let alone allow the number of "straight" anagrams together with such a variety of definitions but I'm no longer surprised at your combined ingenuity.
I'll look in again shortly after 9 and post the result shortly after.

@ Les:what a great shame as I was hoping you'd provide a reference to Labour as I like the originality of using the 's and the misdirection provided by the surface; it would have been shortlist material.
