Not finding the grid as easy as some of you. About 2/3 there and battling on.
A small hint for one I think I have got but not sure.
For 9a, I have a plant that fits the 1st 2nd 4th & 5th letter but
really struggling to fit with clue. A simple word for arrive may be the outside letters but otherwise baffled.

Hi binks, house as in an astrological division.

I also did not find the grid at all easy but have at last got them all except 20 down. I know what the answer ought to be (an Indian garment) but can't see how the wordplay gives that. The bit about the chair rows is particularly baffling.

Hi escuan, if you remove the extra word it's written within in reverse.

Nothing in the instructions tells us what to do with the cut-outs, so I'm inclined to discard them.

ollie - go back to carpox1 @ 30. The preamble requires use of ALL cells, so think where L and S might go in the demonstration. It's a moot point whether they go side by side half way down, or together (see title) on the ground, but since neither position is rigorous I can't think either will be marked wrong. After all, if they fell at different velocities they would both be on the ground 10 seconds after they fell; if they were dropped from different heights and fell at different rates they might well be at the same height half way down. It's not rigorous physics after all. I put mine on the ground.

Don't discard them! Place them in accordance with the experiment - see earliet entres about where to place them!!!

I was making a serious point when I complained about the standard of clueing. In addition to the weaknesses I mentioned, I was asking (indirectly, I admit) for some help in parsing the last three words of 1ac. I understand the rest of it, but I can't see any way that 'demise of Mel' = L.

Demise = end, finish. Confirmed by CCC and Bradford respectively.

I think I've completed this one (with the help of some of the comments in this thread!) but I've used nine rather than ten full words in spelling out the five instructions. My third instruction reads a bit strangely so my error may be there - I've used 7 pairs of letters for that instruction - does that sound wrong to others?
