I'll wait a bit for busby; I realize that the time difference is problematic.

We have an unusual situation this week; rambler and fieryjack were both vote hogs with five each. Who should have the edge: rambler with three clues voted for, or fiery with two votes for one of his two clues? As much as I like rambler’s (shades of his famous “short Agnes” of several years ago), I’m going to go with fiery’s:

Placed in windows, a format you're downloading, as enquiry on menu (10)

Here’s your prize:

This aired in 1960, when I was seven years old. My mother directed our church’s choir and my father was in it, and once a week, on rehearsal night, my sister and I were dropped off at an old Russian woman’s house to be minded. The house was huge (it had been built as a hotel), on a hill, surrounded by open fields, with a very long drive, lined with horse chestnut trees, to a big barn far behind the house and back to the road, in a loop. It was a two-minute drive from our house but it felt like another planet, very isolated. The woman’s English was quite limited, as was our Russian, so of course our conversation was too. She’d make us tea and thick eggy pancakes that were crimped around the edges like pies, and then she’d turn off all the lights and we’d watch The Twilight Zone. I’ll never forget this episode, because it scared me out of my wits, although our babysitter loved it. Creepy place. Whenever I drive by it I think of Rod Serling and that spine-tingling theme.

A great crop of clues (I thought mattrom’s 29 was a stunner). Thanks to all for participating!

My apologies Aristo, sleep typing is one thing I never was much good at ;-)
