I watched the twilight zone avidly and remember that particular episode well. If memory serves Harlan Ellison wrote quite a few stories for it. Not sure if that was one of his.
"The Glass Teat" still holds sway

Aah, The Twilight Zone ...

I was on a plane. My travelling companion said she could do with a glass of water. In that very moment, the stewardess appeared, asking if anyone would like some water.

I then went "do-do, do-do, do-do, do-do" ... my attempt at the start of the theme music. She asked what I meant, as they hadn't had the show in her country. I couldn't remember the name of the show.

And a guy behind leant forward and said "The Twilight Zone".

Weird just got weirder!
