Rickye, in case you still need this. Both the line of poetry and the final instruction are sequential, but the alternation from one to another is at irregular intervals. With the exact quotation all should become clear.

Thanks to both or you b and m! I got there quite easily in the end but failed to advise you both here.

I have a full grid & the obstacles outlined and the extra instruction followed (although I'm not very happy about that).

However, unless my counting is consistently wrong, I have 43 cells covered, not 42.

Anyone else got this?

So close to completing two listeners in a row! This never happens to me. I have the poem and I have, I think, the last two words of the instructions. This leaves me with a nine letter word as the first but I cant work it out as I just don't see the missing letters from 6a, 11a and 19a. Of course I may have got some others wrong. As for a significant name in the 2nd row.... ????? Where does it start and end? I almost have a legendary English footballer who likes his beer too much but I'm sure that's not relevant!

Any help much appreciated. Oh and if you have a fresh copy of 4386, it would save me a lot of correction fluid and effort 8-)

Cheers

Think you have the name in 2nd row .. 7 letters A*****E (would be the footballer but without first letter and Y for IG)
Missing letters 6A,11A,19A - N D R
First word of the instruction is 6 letters C**** E

I have everything - the poem, the instruction and a pretty good idea of what to do. But I can find only 4 of the "obstacles"- A------, L---------, G------ and H----. Shouldn't there be another H----, plus R----, H------, E------- and possibly another A------? If the "picture" is what I think it is I seem to have the frame but not the appendage, Can someone please nudge? Maybe I am totally barking up the wrong "tree"!

You need To look for what they were known as for missing E, H. A. and H. (not their christian names). Two of them are abbreviations. This should give you what is missing from the depiction. The two abbreviations appear twice in the grid so be sure to select the correct two and not the 'red herrings'

The advert that has just appeared at the top of the page for this site was for "Hangmen"! Strange but true.
