Anyone doing this please? I have no idea of the theme yet after filling more than half of the grid...
Stuck on the perimeter clues which may have no defn/ or have to be rearranged before entry/ or have a misprint in the defn ... so basically the letters I have may not be any use in getting the answers to the clues...
1a Chew bananas in questionable diet (12) ??C?R??T????
10d I ask you before leaving (11) ????M?ORT??
39a Important people recalled receiving nothing (12) S?O?LD?PO???
14d None damaged hull of boat externally (11) ??????O?NE? ......possibly anagram of none in there? ends .......ONNE? possibly?

1a The answer is an 8 letter word (an anagram) clued without definition.
14d Another anagram of a 6 letter word.
Both words have something in common and have to be treated on entry.
I do not have the answers to 10 or 39, but if you look at the letters you have the method of treatment may become obvious.

15a is a thematic as well.
Think I see the trend from 1a & 15a.
14a is one as well but can't see the word play - is it an ana. of NONE plus something else?

Hi crackabilly, yes. If you look at the various definitions of the clued wordplay part of the thematic in Chambers it should be apparent.
