Excellent. I can see how you get GCDE as the lookup code - I was really not 100% sure that was how they went in terms of the scale order but I thought they did. Initially missing one note in the original song in my brain did not help though!

So, all excited, I applied to my downs and punched in the 4x4 to google. Still no match. I must have one of the answers wrong at least. Not wishing to give away the sequence (wrong though it obviously is 8-)) I have 5xc, 4xd, 4xe and 3xg. Is that correct?

rrRobbo, your total numbers are correct. The last tetrad is the opposite of the first. The second tetrad is the same as the last, save for a change in the leading position. The third is the same as the first, save for reversal of the first two positions.

Again. Thanks. I must be going insane. I checked those fine comments and my tetrads fit perfectly. I typed them in again to google and bingo, there it was. I must have typed them in wrong before but I tried several times. This must be what happens when you turn 50. Right. I'm off to see what I can make of the closed chord. I have a feeling I might be back!

I am absolutely stunned by the complexity of this thing. It makes me laugh to see comments about the quality of the puzzle. Sure, the wording is a bit ambiguous, but I cannot begin to imagine how one would start to create puzzles like this. Maybe if I did a few more I would understand better and people's comments would make more sense, but I normally give up after 10 minutes of drawing a complete blank!

Thanks again....and watch this space!

I'm glad it worked out, rrRobbo. For 32D the first 3 words are the definition. The answer is a variant spelling.
