35. The famous mad emperor has Ca/about, omitted ('about to flee') from his name, giving the part of insect's mouth.

That leaves me with 30d where I think I have gone wrong somewhere cos nothing fits!!??

I'm stuck on the endgame since I can't parse some of my answers, and am missing some of the extra words.....from
11a, 18a manufactured?, 40a, 1d, 2d, 30d (I have all the answers from their definitions)

Hi Bunty, and Malone if you are there: the missing letters for 11a are VS.
I have the character, and the instruction for completion, but am missing the pared down observation. Any help with parsing 20a 23a and 24a would set me off again. Once again, nearly there but not quite.
