I've done a little research on the game. The first thing I found out is that it's the player with the
lowest score who wins a hole, I don't think that Xanthippe pointed that out. The second thing is that Xanthippe's recipe for declaring the result ("So-and-so won x & y") only holds true if a player wins by more than one hole. If a player wins by only one hole, then it seems the correct terminolgy is : "So-and-so won by 1." - they don't say how many holes there are to play, because it's obviously 0.
The other thing that puzzles me is that the player with the 'honour' of playing first only seems (if my own calculations are correct) to win 0.11* of holes, and loses 0.611* of the holes, so it appears that this thing they call 'honour' is a poisoned chalice. That is unless, the player with the 'honour' has the right to invite the other player to go first...
