Thanks jolan
I hope that the curry will be worth missing 5@5 for!

Just 3 - GOOD-OH (GOO DOH). It reminded me of the appalling Bennett in "The cruel sea" - "Snorkers! Good-oh!"

Hi also to Ari and Jazzy.
Surprise, surprise! This is the first time there hasn't been an answer at 1700. I'll hold off till after dinner although there may be a reply by the time I post this. J

I should have turned to page 2!!!

Thank you Albert 2, 3 and 5 correct. And, would you believe it Chris, I just looked at a dvd of The Cruel Sea yesterday.

I'll leave the unanswered ones till later this evening.

Hi Ari and Jazzy.
Ooohhh! I fear I've made a wee miscalculation with #4. I realise that 'kid' and 'two-time' are not strictly synonymous. I was a bit rushed this morning and did not spend my usual amount of time checking to be sure there were no anomalies. I now feel that #4 was unfair. What do you think? SORRY

1. bulk = any huge structure (Chambers def); War = Warwickshire (Chambers abbrev); ‘bulk’ on the outskirts of ‘War’ = bul(war)k = BULWARK (vt) = to fortify (Chambers def).

2. lyc(h)ees = LYCEES (lycée = a secondary school in France – Chambers def)

3. goo = sentimentality (Chambers def); note = doh; GOOD-OH = expressing sentimentality (Chambers def).

4. (pun) TWO-TIMES
two-time( vt and vi) to deceive; to double-cross:
kid2 , also kiddy (vt and vi)
to hoax; to pretend, esp as a joke; to tease, delude, deceive as a joke.
n a deception.

5. boy = son; giggling = laughter; boy ‘keeps’ giggling = s(laughter)on; anag (changes) of ‘aunt Eve then’ = tenth avenue; yielding SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE = a ballet (originally)

Hi Andy. Indeed you did. Do you agree #4 is not quite fair?
