ASA?

Think ASAR but not sure why!

Behind is prat.
Tarp.

Tarp is an accepted abbreviation for tarpaulin/cover.

An asar is a gravel bank left behind by a glacier.
Also known as a kame or esker.

I think the "recession" bit of your clue is the glacier receding?

Could well be.
Not sure where the first "a" comes from, though.

ASAR = A (abbreviation for 'are', as in the land measure) + RAS(h) reversed
