Hello Elle,

I was quite wrong to mention only these three museums ! I did like you and checked on Wikipedia and Paris has no less than 130 museums; Looking at the link you sent me, I think that some objects similar to those exposed in the British Museum are kept in different museums in Paris.
Whenever I went to the Louvres, I too concentrated to one school of paintings. That's all I was really interested in although I did have a quick look at Sculptures, and Antiquity departments. I must admit that old coins collections leave me absolutely cold ! and Archaeology would interest me a lot more if I was actually taking part in the digging!

I did go to the Tate Gallery once and remember seeing a few Impressionists' paintings but I was only 17, so you can imagine how long ago that was! I read that the Tate has since been divided into several wings.

Hi pigale

"Digging" is fun but you do spend a lot of time on your knees, bum in air, getting sunburnt or frozen! I did 2 weeks in front of Exeter Cathedral, where the red earth got everywhere. The public baths lady was not pleased to see me!

Ros, for some reason, I was thinking of a more exotic location..... Having my bum in the air in the middle of a City does not really appeal to me !

Did you unearth anything of interest ?

Not that I remember, in two weeks. I'm not sure, maybe it was thought to be or is a Roman site?

There were plenty of comments from bystanders!

Hello, Elle!
Derby is at 16.30. Channel 4.
It is a lovely day again.
Hope your weather has improved.
Eurosport is best for Athletics...and tennis!
I never realised there were so many works of art in the world.
Paris has over 100 museums and galleries!
There is a programme on National Geographic TV on Sunday about building the London Underground system.
Not sure if I have seen this one.
Repeats abound on these channels.
I was visiting my son this morning and then my grandson turned up. So, all very pleasant!

Hi, Rusty!
I am glad that you are having a good day!
Great to visit your son, and then have your grandson come to see you.
Yes, our weather has much improved, thank you........unfortunately no sun, but much warmer this afternoon.
We have been for a walk in the woods.
I am right now feeling extremely frustrated and put out!!!!!
I got home in time to watch the start of the Men's Doubles Final between the Bryan twins and Mark and Feliciano Lopez ( unrelated).
Then the match - after one set - has just switched from ITV1 to ITV4.....I should have been able to get this on Freeview.......but not today for some reason.......NO SIGNAL!!!!!!!
Grrhhhh!!!!!
How utterly frustrating!!!!!
Anyway, how did your horse racing go? I meant to watch but we weren't home in time.

Good evening, Elle!
Glad your weather is on the mend!
Great pity about ITV4. (Mens doubles on now.)
i have no experience of Freeview.
Did you try switching it off at the wall plug?
Then on again.
I do that when my Skybox plays up, and it always fixes things.
No Eurosport on Freeview?
Mr Rogan has one of his pesky clues in the Times today.
The answer "may" be a word you are unfamiliar with, though.
19d, Lucerne's two halves commonly covering small area (7)
I knew it right away because I had read a book about the great cattle ranches in Texas etc. Another name for lucerne.
But it is the "commonly" bit I do not like.
Wonder what Malone thinks?
My horse was no good in the Derby. Distress flags flying with 3 furlongs to go. Ireland had the first three home.

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, been there, done that......with my Freeview box!
I had unplugged, replugged, shouted at it....... and all but kicked it!
(Where are husbands when you need them.......?
Mine went to Homebase and hasn't come back yet!)
Is the answer to your clue "alfalfa"?
I know that alfalfa is another name for lucerne - once I'd realised it wasn't the place "Lucerne" that was being referred to.
'alf 'alf a (rea)
But like you, I wish Mr R would keep his opinions about the "common" people to himself!
Any news about the Men's Doubles match? I shall see if I can find a score on the computer.......
Btw....I hear that the "panic room" lady lost...!!
Yippee!
(Sorry about your horse!)

Hello, Elle!
Is there perhaps a "refresh" or "reset" button on Freeview box?
Any help online?
Yes, alfalfa. Used as cattle feed.
'alf is not used at all in my neck of the woods, however "common" it may be in Mr Rogan's!
Other than that, it was a good crossword.
I was very pleased that Williams got whupped!
Made my day!
I saw Lassie feeding her brood earlier.
There was a report in my paper of another osprey nest near Forfar with four chicks in it!
And two glossy ibis have been spotted among the geese at Montrose.
Is the plural, ibis or ibises?
I will go for ibis, like sheep!
No problem with the Derby result.
I like the owner, the Aga Khan.
Great racing family. They owned the ill-fated Shergar.

Hi, Rusty!
Oops! I fell asleep reading my book!
I have awakened to find the book on the floor and it nearly bedtime!
I see that the Bryan twins lost out to the (non-sibling) Lopezes.
It was a good match - what I managed to see of it!!
(I'm assuming a transmission failure ( somewhere) is to blame for my lack of signal on ITV4.
Main TV channels are all working correctly.)
Lassie and her brood are coming along nicely, aren't they?
They are lovely to watch!
I was amazed to see the third chick stagger out of the egg and then immediately line up to be fed!
Forfar? Where is that?
I checked - curiosity led me to it - the plural of "ibis" in Chambers........seemingly it can be either "ibis or "ibises".
I wonder why not "ibes"?
