Hi, Rusty!
That was a very unequivocal 'No'! but think how boring it would be if we all liked the same subjects? My favourites at school were English Language and Latin, but I went on to study the Sciences and Maths. And became a Biomedical Scientist.
What subjects did you like at school then? You are such an avid reader, and so very well informed about so many subjects, I would find it hard to narrow it down and guess at what you were interested in during your schooldays?
How did the football go? did you get the result you wanted? or did you opt for the watching the shinty instead?

Elle, your 'And ... ' sentence does not follow the grammatical rules for beginning a sentence with And.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I loved parsing sentences when I was young, but I think some of the rules were far too rigid. I am happy that many of them are not followed so slavishly.

Hello, Elle!
I detested school and was asked to leave when I became 15. No certificates, just "off you go".
Score was 1-1. Not much of a game!
Did you download Adblock Plus to your Hudl?
I did, but have uninstalled it.
I was running on Google Chrome and have now installed Firefox as well.
Adblock Plus comes as an "add-on" with Firefox and is simpler to install.
I did not know that about Firefox.
Seems to be a good browser.
Maybe you should try it, Elle?

You are quite right, of course, Malone! Nor should I start a sentence with 'But' , which I often do - maybe put it down to colloquialism?
No one talks like he/ she would write formally, either!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I have downloaded Adblock Plus to my Hudl. It has worked fine on the Forum until yesterday! and now I've got intermittent adverts appearing. Sometimes when I look in , all is clear, then next time there 'll be several adverts all over the page. But this is the first time I've had trouble since I got my Hudl. A mystery!
Why did you uninstall it? were you having similar trouble?
I'm also having trouble with accessing my emails? don't know what's gone wrong? I hate technology!!!!!!

There is no rule that sentences shouldn't begin with a conjunction ! It is a common misconception, with no historical or grammatical foundation.

.........or end? I'm reminded of dear, dear, Winston:

"This is the sort of nonsense up with which I will not put!"

Thanks, Chris - I'd forgotten about that. I think the rigidity of some of these so-called 'rules' is responsible for their demise.

Yes, Chris, that's another of my pet hates , sentences ending with a preposition! Sometimes , I have to force myself to do it, just so as not to sound too pedantic! I rarely can bring myself to write it though!
