If GHOTI could be pronounced "fish", how would you spell "fish"?

Pigale, no, not at all!
It is not boring!
That is exactly what the thread is for.

Albie, I shall have a wee pop at Paddy P next week, too!

By the way Chrise, a lot of confusion indeed between
'BIEN' and 'BON' , but I am sure you know the difference.

That's often the problem with the younger generation Doglet - if we are not careful, they will soon spell phonetically, and I am sorry but to me an ELEPHANT withoug its PH is an elephant without his trunk!
But there you go, I am probably old fashioned!

rough - sounds like ruff, hence GH
women = pronounced "wimmin", hence O
attention - pronounced atten sh un, hence TI

gives GHOTI = FISH

Back now with clean (and straighter!) hair....
Harking back to Pigale's stale of teaching the ABC of grammar...this is exactly how I was taught at school! We learned everything: nouns, pronouns adjective,s adverbs, adjectival clauses , adverbial clauses, use of the subjunctive, gerunds, conjunctions - you name it we had to learn it!
I loved English grammar and went on to feel exactly the same about Latin!
Didn't anybody else learn English Grammar like that?
