I'm very sorry to say, elle, that we will be going to her funeral in a couple of weeks.

No sympathy, please.

Hello, Elle!
"G" will be OK, just what the riders call "road rash".
Skinned knees and elbows etc.
The way Sagan is talking, he will be leading a strike soon, about riding in this heat!
"Demitasse" is new to me.
I no longer have the puzzle, Elle.
But as I recall, this is my take on it, so....!
The von Trapps were a musical family, whereas the Trappists are/were an order of monks who took a vow of silence.
So, could that be the "yes and no" bit?
Possibly not, but it seems reasonable to me.
My son is on the train from London, and it is running over two hours late due to the rails being too hot!

Hi, Rusty!
Would it not be possible to delay the Tour for a few days because of the heat?
If there is a danger to "life and limb"?
Or is that not feasible?
Has your son been to London on holiday?
I know they quite often come up to go to a show.
I have been held up by trains being late in the Autumn, because of 'leaves on the line'...but never because of the rails being too hot!
But I suppose the latter doesn't happen very often!
We do not usually have such high temperatures.
I hope your son makes it home safely..... and soon!
I'm afraid that I don't really understand this "trappist" malarkey...but not to worry!

Hello, Elle!
I think the logistics of delaying the Tour are impossible.
It is an enormous travelling show, lots more than the riders are involved.
And the towns pay money to have the Tour visit them.
It is the heat in the Alps the riders fear.
Today, for instance was a flat stage, so they can go at a fast rate and create a breeze.
They can't do that high up.
No, my son was in London to do with his job.
I may see him tomorrow, as I am visiting my daughter-in-law.
My thoughts on your clue are, the von Trapps made music and sang, the Trappist monks were silent, the complete opposite.
Hence "yes and no"?

Good morning, Rusty!
Another hot day!
I was up and out very early .....but didn't succeed in beating the heat!
Yes, I feel for the cyclists riding in the mountains in heat even hotter than this.
But I understand how impractical it would be to defer the stage.
I hope your son got home eventually without too much further delay?
What does he do that his job brings him up to London?
You will be visiting your daughter- in -law this morning.....and maybe see Miss O'H as well?
Have a good time!

Good day, Elle!
I am just home.
It was heavy rain earlier but a lovely day now.
My d-i-l and me had forms to fill up.
All done, now!
My son works for a Government department and visits London regularly.
We say "down" to London!
Cycling under way now, it is a fairly hilly course today, but the Alps tomorrow, including the Galibier which is a brute of a climb.
That's where the riders will suffer in the heat.
I am home for the day now!

Hi, Rusty!
I think your heavy rain was just later arriving than ours!
We had a thunderstorm and rain during last night...... however, it did nothing to lessen the heat and humidity today.
This is almost unbearable!
Yes, it's odd , isn't it?
I have always said "up" to London, from whichever direction! even though London is "down" South.
I once looked this up....
I was offered varying explanations......."up" and "down" railway lines....an "up city", as opposed to "down city", theory.
And then an alternative theory that one always headed "up" to the capital from whatever the direction.
I do not know the rights and wrongs of it?
Personally, I cannot see that it matters, so long as the import of the sentence is clear.
(This is ringing a vague bell...have we discussed this before?)
Incidentally, do you travel "up" to Edinburgh, regardless of from where you are coming?
I have done all my jobs......and am now going to sit near the fan to cool down!
