Hello, Elle!
I am home for the rest of the day, too!
Yes, "bis" was in a recent puzzle but that's as much as I can remember.
"Eric" came out of left field for me.
Wonder if it is anything to do with the name "Eric".
I'll look up Chambers!
It is amazing what you learn from puzzles, well, for me anyway.
I think you should be pleased with yourself, for nailing today's puzzle, Elle.
It was on the tough side, and it was by a very good setter.
Everything was gettable.
I seem to have acquired a lodger this afternoon.
A neighbour's cat seems to have moved in!

Hi, Rusty!
I think it was just the luck of the draw , so to speak, that enabled me to finish today's puzzle!
I found the answers straightforward (ish) and so was often able to parse after the event...rather than rely on the parsing to find an answer!
Or maybe the two just came together in my head?
Anyway......yes, a satisfactory day's solving!
You have a cat come to visit ?
How nice! I love cats!
I love my dog.......but I am definitely a "cat person"!
Do you "know" the cat to belong to a neighbour?
Or might it be a stray, looking for a good home?

A white horse walks into a bar.
The barman says "We have a drink here named after you"

"What, Eric?"

Chris, I am missing something here; Who IS/was Eric?
A horse?

Hi pigale
I've heard an academic analysis of this joke - apparently it only works if the horse is called Eric.

(You may not know that "White Horse" is a fairly well-known brand of blended Scotch whisky)

Good evening, Elle!
Some days the puzzles seem a bit more straightforward than usual.
Tomorrow's puzzle should be tougher!
My front door was open and the cat walked in!
He/she lives several doors down and his owners have a flap in the door so the cat can get back in.
I often see the cat wandering about the neighbourhood.
I have just escorted him to the door and closed it behind him!
Strange thing, he sat for a few minutes gazing at my television screen, but the set was switched off.

Hi Chris,

Yes, I do know 'White Horse" as a brand name of whisky - it is in
every supermarkets in France, along with many others, be them
Scots or Irish - Whisky is a popular drink here, perhaps more particularly at 'aperitif' time - It has the reputation of being good
for the arteries -within moderation evidently!

But I still did not make any connection with "Eric", probably because
I have never come across a horse named Eric....?

Hi, Rusty!
It was obviously time for the cat's favourite TV programme...... and his owner was out!
Yes, no doubt I shall not be able to answer a single clue in tomorrow's puzzle!
I had smoked haddock ,with cheese sauce, mushy peas, and a jacket potato for my dinner.
Very tasty it was , too.
I am now going to watch the earlier recording of "Eggheads".
( I wonder what has happened to Egghead Dave...he hasn't been seen for weeks!)

Good one , Chris!
I like it!

Hello, Elle!
I do not think this cat is ever home!
I come across him quite a lot outside.
Your tea sounds delicious.
I do not know Egghead Dave, just the original Eggheads.

Do you know this young one?
She is from Dorking.
I have taken to her, anyway!
Seemingly she has performed with Amira.
I'll have to hunt for that!

Hi, Rusty!
I have just been listening to the young girl playing the violin.
Whenever I watch these gifted youngsters being interviewed , I am always amazed at their supreme self confidence.
My eldest grandson is learning to play the violin, as you probably know.
He has taken just a couple of exams so far...and has recently been on a residential music course, aimed at bettering his prowess.
I wonder does he ever aspire to become really proficient in the art ?
I have previously sent him clips of Nicola Benedetti playing !
I thought seeing / listening to / her might inspire him!
