Hi, Rusty!
I'm not sure how Henry VIII managed to achieve that.... didn't he have a row with the Pope over wanting a divorce?
My History is rocky at the best of times!
I'm sure Google will know ...but I am too tired to find out......
I take your point about "priest" meaning "club"!
Yes, you had told me that, and I should have remembered it, and consequently looked up "orphan" in the dictionary!
Never mind...... a salutary lesson...... and I have learned from it!
I shall hopefully not make that mistake again!
I am going to sit quietly and read my Michael Connelly......I may even go to sleep....!
My husband is shredding paper.........I wonder what we have that needs such fierce destruction....?

Didn't Henvy VIII have a row with the pope, and thus created the
Church of England, declaring himself as the Head of that Church -
whereby he could do as he pleased?
Something like that, isn't it?

Yes, that's right, Pigale.
Henry had a row with the Pope, breaking away from the Catholic Church.
He needed the help of the Protestants ,because he wanted to divorce Catherine of Aragon and marry Anne Boleyn.
The ensuing Act of Supremacy made Henry the head of the Church of England, so enabling him basically to arrange his own divorce.
Later on , though, the church he'd then established took up a very firm stance against divorce.

Yes Elle, that is what I seem to remember - yet, I don't think Rome
ever agree with this annulment of his marriage with Catherine -

I think the stormy winds have finally (after 3 days) died down!
I and the cats might have a more peaceful night!

Any news of your son?

Hello, Elle!
I am not good at English History, but there was a dispute between Henry and Rome, and Henry annulled two marriages.
Maybe annul and divorce are different?
Anyways, it was a challenging puzzle.
Hope tomorrow's is the same!
Any news of your son?

Hi, Rusty!
Well, I did not get my expected short zizz....for the simple reason that I never got to sit down with my book!
Firstly, I was interrupted by a very long totally unexpected - but very nice - phone call!
Phone calls and visits are popping out of the woodwork - isn't that the expression for unexpected happenings? - this Christmas time!
I have just been reading a letter from my friends who live near you.
It is all about their activities in and around Dundee, over last few months!
My friend tells me she has sighted a very rare Comma butterfly (I'll take her word for it as I know nothing about butterflies) in Crombie Country Park.
Do you know this Country Park - I am assuming that you will?
She also tells me that she and her husband are still working at Dundee University School of Life Sciences.
They both do research and have had their funding extended.
I am surprised that they have not retired!
She and I are the same age!
No, no word from our son.......but then this often the case!
He will get absorbed in work.......
We already have a hard frost - the cars all look frozen!

Posts crossed, Elle!
I know of Crombie Park but not sure where it is.
Some departments at that Uni got huge monetary gifts.
I hear they are World leaders in certain researches.
Did you read in the paper about the lady in Perth who can detect Parkinson's disease by smell?
The scientists are now trying to find out which molecules cause the smell, with her help.
Lots of research going into it now.
She detected a smell from her husband many years before he was diagnosed.
Nobody else could detect anything.
It is a hard frost here, too.

Hello, Pigale!
Henry did not like Anne of Cleves.
I think he called her the "Flanders Mare"!
Not a very nice man!
I think she outlived his other wives and is buried at Westminster Abbey.
