Hello, Elle!
That is encouraging news regarding the cat!
Hope he is on the mend!
No, I just sort of "explore" the things I come across on YouTube.
It is a pity there was no YouTube when I was at school.
I think it may have made a difference to me.
I had a look at logarithms earlier but am no wiser!
I shall stick to simpler stuff, like LBJ.
It has been a fine day here.

Good evening, Rusty!
I have been talking to my cousin for the past hour...we have had a lot of catching up to do!
All is well with the Northern branch of the family.
I finally have had a response from Customer Care at Eurosport Player.
They tell me that, after their recent upgrade, it is proving necessary for many customers to reset their password in order to gain access to their account again.
They suggest that I might be one of these!
So I have dutifully followed their instructions on how to do this.....including what they now want included in the password!
But does it work...can I now access EuroSport?
No, I cannot!
So I am back to emailing them again.......!
I remember using logs at school...... I don't think any of us had ever heard of a calculator!
How's your research on LBJ going?

Hello, Elle!
That is a pity about EuroSport.
Keep at them!
I have a problem with the DVLA.
They have my address wrong on my new log book for the Jazz.
I have corrected it and returned it but I think I may have signed in the wrong place, so I signed in two places!
It was not straightforward to my way of thinking!
I shall phone tomorrow and see what the craic is.
I think logs preceded calculators.
Probably not any good these days?
My research on LBJ is progressing slowly.
Apparently President Roosevelt had a high opinion of him and the work he did in Congress.
But I got diverted into reading up on Boney M.
They had many singers over the years, but only two were allowed in the recording studio, Liz Mitchell and Marcia Barrett.
Frank Farian did the male voice in the recordings but did not appear on stage because he was a "schlager" singer.
I have not found out what a schlager singer is yet, but I'll get there!
Is the cat any livelier?

Hi, Rusty!
I am running out of patience with EuroSport Player!
I have asked them if they are going to add the 'viewing time' that I am missing, on to the end of my contract with them.
Schlager is a German word...I think it means popular song?
Does that help?
Younger daughter has just texted...they are home again from their somewhat disastrous weekend.
They had booked a long weekend in a well-known holiday park on the Kent coast, thinking that the children would enjoy spending time on the beach.
I shall not mention it by name as what I am going to say is very detrimental, and it might be against Forum rules.
Apparently, the place was not very clean and there was a most unpleasant smell, leading the guests to think that there was a problem with the drains/ sewage.
My daughter took photos , filled in a Complaints form to apply for a refund, and they set off to find somewhere else to stay!
They moved up the coast and spent a couple of nights in Hythe - very pleasant and enjoyable.
A shame though that all was not plain sailing!
Thank you for asking about the cat...he has eaten a little more, and has not been sick today, but I think I shall take him along to the vets on Tuesday, to get checked out, when normal surgery resumes, and we can see our usual vet.

Have you heard of Benford's Law? Used log books illustrate it very well. It has been used to identify all sorts of fraudulent behaviour!

Hello, Elle!
I think you are right about schlagers.
I found some examples of schlager songs that were popular in the UK.
"Blue Spanish Eyes", "Sailor", "Only the Lonely", "Please Release Me", and "Halfway to Paradise".
I am not at all sure why they are classified as schlager music, though.
Who decides?
The tennis is on EuroSport now, and all week.
I would imagine there will be many desperate to see the US Open.
EuroSport appear to have blundered badly!
That is a pity about your daughter's weekend.
Hope she gets compensated by the holiday company.
And this is a crossword forum, Elle.
You could have gave us a cryptic clue to who the scoundrels were!
I think I have heard of Hythe before.
Is it known for anything apart from being a pleasant spot?

Hi, Rusty!
I don't know the first two songs that you mention?
"Only the Lonely" is Roy Orbison; "Please Release Me" is Jim Reeves or Engelbert Humperdinck; and I 'm not sure about "Halfway to Paradise ".......Billy Fury?
I didn't know these were Schlager music!
I don't think Hythe is famous for anything?
There was a report a while back about its being a "crap" town........the newspaper's definition......and choice of word....... not mine!
I think this stemmed from its being a quiet peaceful place though, rather than there being anything amiss.
It has a pebble beach....I prefer sandy ones!
There is another Hythe somewhere?
In Hampshire, I think?
I shall hear all about the holiday tomorrow.
I have already seen the incriminating photographs from the "place from Hell"!

Hello, Chris!
No, I've never heard of Benford's Law.
It looks way above my head!
I didn't go beyond A-level Maths and Physics.

Good morning, Elle!
Dry here.
I was wakened earlier by my smoke alarm bleeping.
Needs a new battery, I think.
Both Humperdinck and Al Martino sang "Blue Spanish Eyes".
I think it was Petula Clark sang "Sailor", or maybe Anne Shelton?
Yes, Billy Fury sang "Halfway to Paradise".
I remember the Irish showbands doing it, too.
Schlager songs seem to be more like ballads than "pop" music?
I do not know of any more Hythe's, Elle!
I am off now to see if I can get a battery for my alarm!

Update, Elle, before I go!
If you type "Sailor" song, into Google, it tells that Petula Clark sang "Sailor", an English language translation of a German schlager song!
I only had a quick glance!
Anne Shelton sang it too.

A very good morning, to you, Rusty!
A lovely day here!
We have only just come back from our walk.......we went early to beat the heat ...and further afield to avoid the "crowds"!
25C already!
So it is going to be very hot indeed as the day progresses.
I think of Pet Clark largely in connection with "Downtown", although she obviously sang a myriad of songs!
She and Anne Shelton strike me as being very different types of singer?
I shall take a look/ listen for "Sailor" on Youtube!
Did you get the battery for your smoke alarm?
(I still need one for my watch!)
