Hey, Rusty!
Wow!
What a contest!
Jo has finally done it - and is through to the third round!
Three hours and ten minutes of fantastic tennis - neither player deserved to lose.
Stan Wawrinka was watching - his girlfriend , Donna Velic, was Jo's opponent.
Did you manage to see any of the match?
Or have you been too busy with Le Tour?
And another plus...Heather Watson is through to the next round, too!
Andy Murray and Dustin Brown are on next!

Hello, Elle,
I caught the last 10 minutes of Jo's match (TDF takes priority).
They seemed to be two fine players.
But one has to lose!
I was reading earlier that Laura Robson got £35,000 for losing in the first round.
That is a lot of money.
The Tour was good today and took place in a beautiful part of France.
Very enjoyable!

Unforgivably, the two players who played a set and a bit before retiring yesterday also each got £35000.

Interesting stage, and unusual to have a mountaintop finish in the first week (at least for some years back).

Chris, yes, it is very unusual to have a mountain finish so early in the race.
One for the sprinters tomorrow, unless a break goes, and stays away.
£35,000 seems a lot to pay a first round loser, surely?

Elle, why is this?
Is tennis awash with money?

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, I know that Le Tour takes priority for you...I just wondered if you were flitting between the two, seeing as how Jo was playing!
The match between Andy and Dustin Brown is so far proving somewhat disappointing...I was expecting more verve from Dustin!
Do you know, I didn't even know that the First Round losers received any prize money?
I had assumed in my naivety that a player only got paid if he /she actually won something?
No wonder these players are coming on court with injuries......and then conceding the match - they presumably then get paid at the next level?
This is surely a fault in the system?

Hello, Elle!
The players seem to be taking advantage of it, or one or two do.
Laura Robson could not not be faulted though.
She is just not good enough at that level, unfortunately.
I have golf to fit in tomorrow, too.
The Irish Open starts.
You have the Diamond League from Lausanne tomorrow, remember?

Hi, Rusty!
You will have a busy day tomorrow!
TDF, tennis and golf all to keep an eye on!
Oh, and not to mention the Diamond League, too!
Now did I know about the DL?
It is a good job that you remind me!
I wonder will I be able to fit in the two schedules - tennis and athletics?
There is more Athletics coverage on BBC, too , on Sunday.
The London World Championships at the Olympic Stadium.
But how was Le Tour today... peaceful?

Hello, Elle,
Yes, the Tour was fine.
In a lovely part of the world, too.
Back to normal tomorrow.
Should be one for the sprinters!
I have been unsuccessful in chasing something down and you may help me?
The other day I was going through Bradford's Dictionary and something caught my eye.
Under "print(er), printing" she had "caveman".
But under "caveman" she did not have "printer".
I have been trying in vain to find out why on earth "caveman" comes under "print(er), printing".
Any ideas?

And, strangely enough, since we were discussing Mark Cavendish yesterday, I discovered "cavendish" in Chambers.
It is tobacco. Never knew that, either!

Hi, Rusty!
Off the top of my head, I wonder if "caveman ...print (er)" comes from the prehistoric days when man lived in caves and drew / painted / "wrote"/ on the cave walls?
A possibility?
All right, I'll buy it.......why ever were you looking up "cavendish" in Chambers?
Fascinating though to discover that it means "tobacco"!
I gave up on watching the Nadal match.... too much television for me for one day!
I wonder how he got on?
I tried googling, but according to the scores given, the match doesn't appear to have finished?
Surely it must have done by now?
I shall check for an update later.
Right now, I need a coffee.....my brain is befuddled with watching tennis balls going backwards and forwards.....
