One of my other granddaughters, Miss World Tour, has been sending me photos of the brand new car she collected yesterday! Just a wee one but looks the biz!
She has her graduation ball this weekend but the next weekend she is taking me for a spin in it,

I didn't know about that anniversary either - next year will probably see some official commemorative ceremonies, but unfortunately I think all the surviving soldiers have died now.

In GB there is some sort of balloting taking place to possibly get an invitation to ceremonies next year.

People are saying what a wonderfully warm Summer's day today is.
That is exactly the weather the troops had as they left the trenches, 99 years ago.

I'm multi-tasking here.........watching Broady losing to Goffin ( a very experienced and talented opponent)......and reading a new book.
I've got the fan on as it's so unbearably hot! My husband - quite oblivious to the heat - is out gardening all alone! even the dog has deserted him and come inside where it's cooler.
Normally, I would be assisting willingly, but not today at this temperature !
Some one on the radio has just advised a curfew between 11am and 3pm when all should stay indoors out of the intense heat!
World of Books haven't sent ME a voucher? that smacks of favouritism! or maybe I just haven't bought enough books yet? or did you fill out a survey? ( I've tended so far to ignore all surveys sent as time-wasters!)

Why should there be any doubt as to whether or not GB will get an invitation next year ? I should have thought that all countries involved in WW1 will be represented - and in saying this I include Germany, they suffered great losses too.

Must have been dreadful fighting in such Summer like conditions, when Nature looks at its best.

I know many of the men were thinking about the harvest starting in their farms - there are some very interesting books that ally history of agriculture, country folks way of life and the effect of the war, the whole through following several generations of a family- semi documention fiction, and I learnt a lot regarding the 'modern' techniques the POW had seen in Germany, and the job they had in convincing the older generation back home.

Yes, I agree about Germany.
They had enormous losses and should be there, too, in my humble opinion.
Russia had huge losses, too, but on the Eastern front.

I did not know of a link between agriculture and the war, except for the horses.
