If you apply dubbin wax to boots, this is known as dubbining.

Rusty, my weather is not to my liking today, nor has it been for a few days but today is the worse so far !

I sure wish you could send some of your breeze this way - I just live too far from the sea ! Haven't put my nose out since 10.30am, when I closed all shutters.

dub (verb) also means to rub the wax into the leather so dubbing can also be used when you apply the dubbin

...and if you apply it to your horse by mistake, you would be dubbing or dubbining Dobbin ;)

Poor old Dobbin!
Anyway, I have always called the preparation "dubbin", so to me, I would be dubbining rather than dubbing?

"dubbing" (a verb) is "to rub a softening and waterproof mixture into (leather)"

"Dubbing" can also be a noun, as is "dubbin"
meaning "a preparation of grease.

MY Chambers doesn't give "dubbining!

.....and when rusty , when you have finished dubbining your boots, they will have been dubbined, but not in Dublin :)
