"The Vicar of Christ" is a novel by Walter F. Murphy. It tells the story of a Korean War Hero who later becomes Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court, and, later still, Pope. It's a fascinating read, particularly the processes by which he gets the two prestigious posts.

Hi, Rusty!
I am not very au fait with "vicars" either.
I call them "ministers."
Yes, I take your point with regard to "Vicar of Christ" = "Pope" = "Head of Church"!
I had just never come across the first expression.
But now I have learned something new today!
That is good!
Re the TV ........to explain a little........I could have watched the television through the Freeview digibox (as I think Malone does; he will correct me if I am wrong?) but as I cannot access my Red Buttons through my Freeview remote control , I thought I could do so here through the TV set itself if it had a separate aerial?
Is this making sense to you?
Anyway, the theory seems to be working (so far...)
We shall see how it goes......easy enough to alter if necessary......
I like your quote from "Babe"!!
Enjoy Cathy Freeman!
And Dame Kelly - whom I have met!
I look forward to hearing about them.

Hello, Elle,
Glad you are coming round to my way of thinking regarding "vicar"!
Elle, I am not the sharpest tool in the box, and am quite lost regarding Freeview and Red Buttons and digiboxes.
So, I have no idea what you are meaning.
But...it works! That's fine!
I know where I am with Sky, though!
I liked Farmer Hoggett in Babe!
A fine upstanding man!
I'll watch the docs tomorrow, and Homes under the Hammer.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, the rain has finally stopped.
Tomorrow is supposed to be much brighter - with sunshine!
But very much colder.
I have promised to accompany a friend to a hearing test in the late morning - at Boots, I think she said ?
Does Boots do hearing tests?
I am meeting her in Bromley and then after the test we are going out for lunch.
I shan't need to rush though....there will be plenty of time to walk the dog first.
And maybe even fit in the QC!
Did you hear from your son?
How was his day?
I'm tired...... a cup of coffee , then bed, I think!

Hello, Elle!
My son landed two kelts, only.
A kelt is a salmon which has spawned and is in pretty poor condition and is trying to get back to sea.
If it makes it, it will be restored to full health and may return to the river another year to spawn again.
Not many make it though.
There was a fine fish of 23lbs landed on the Garry, a tributary of the Tay, though.
Well I am very warm this night.
It is very mild.
I do not know about Boots hearing tests.
Specsavers do them, I know that.

Elle, I'm glad the new TV is all set up. I've never heard of using two aerials, but it's great that you worked out a way to access the red buttons properly.
Elle, Rusty, the Times crossword blog yesterday seemed to treat Vicar as fairly mundane - they simply added that it should have been 'head of A church, not head of church'.

Good morning, Malone.
I thought the "Vicar" clue was not so good.
Just a bit on the easy side.
Yes, head of "a" church would have worked better, I think.

Good morning, Rusty!
An absolutely beautiful day here!
Blue sky and sunshine - and very frosty!
It was a great walk!
How is the weather with you?
So ...with the salmon fishing... what happens to the fish that are 'caught'?
Is it a "catch and return" policy, or do any of the salmon end up as 'supper'?
Or does it depend upon the maturity of the fish, and/or the part of the Season?
I am having a quick cup of coffee , then going to get changed , ready for "off" in about forty minutes.
I need to take a bus into Bromley. to meet my friend.
What are you up to, today?
(Apart from watching Cathy Freeman and Dame Kelly!
Oh, I am envious!)

Hello, Malone!
I had the new TV all set up to work through the Freeview box, when it occurred to me to try to work out a way that I could access/ utilise the Red Buttons.
So I tried a separate aerial.... it seems to work fine....I can use both TV and Freeview Digibox independently.
I watch the programme through the TV set; the digibox records by itself.
It is working so far...and is easy enough to change , should I find a problem with it.

Good morning, Elle!
I only managed to record "Weight of the Nation" about Cathy Freeman.
I must have blundered setting up Dame Kelly!
It is a fine morning and mild.
The vast majority of the fish are returned, Elle.
It is strictly forbidden to take a fish on some beats.
The others may let you take one, but only if you caught several.
It is illegal to take kelts.
Atlantic salmon conservation is a top priority on all the beats.
Personally, I much prefer trout to eat, anyway.
Have you got rid of the exploding TV?

! Update, Elle !
I watched the Cathy Freeman programme, "Weight of a Nation".
It only lasted 14 minutes, but I found it engrossing.
There were also very good contributions from Donna Fraser, and especially, Katherine Merry.
Now here's the thing!
There is a another programme on Sky Sports on Saturday about Cathy.
"The Reluctant Activist".
I am wondering if it is the same programme with a different title?
