I wrote a piece for the local paper on the experiences I had with that trip and found my original typed version of it the other day. I have been trying to find the article in google but no luck.

That is a pity, Jazzgirl!.
Bound to be somewhere in the ether?
One of the things I learned watching "Treasures of the British Library", was that they get a copy of every newspaper printed in the UK (and possibly Ireland) each day, and they are stored at Boston Spa, Yorkshire.
Wonder if they could help you?

Thanks for that new information, rusty. The local newspaper's archives only go back for 10 years. I will delve some more

Jazzgirl,
Best be careful if you decide to visit the BL at Boston Spa.
Apparently it is often mistaken for the nearby prison!
But, lots of info on the website!

I don't want to get locked up yet. Just found this.
I will ask Julian for a bit more info when he is not buried under mediaeval documents.

I am called to supper. Before I go, J has re-tweeted about Benjamin Zephaniah if you want to have a peek.

Hi, Rusty!
Well, Andy has done it!
He has won the ATP Championships and become the World's Number One!
A well-deserved triumph!
He played well; Novak played a number of unforced errors.
But it was a good match.
Novak was very gracious in defeat.
He gave good credit to Andy.
Your new book sounds as though it will be a good read!
It should be especially interesting, as you will have a lot of background knowledge about Alaska, having read Mr M's saga on the subject?
I hadn't realised that your pavements were so icy.
Yes, you are wise to stay indoors until they clear!

Hi Elle, Rusty and everyone

My husband was born in Alaska and lived there up to the age of 6 .
Then my father-in-law had to return to mainland USA, in Oregon.
But my husband went back to Alaska for Summer vacation when he was 14, and again at a later date. He has always told me that you need to have been born there to really acclimatise not only to the weather, but more so to the 23 hours of darkness or of daylight.

Extremely windy, warmish (11C at night!) and rainy weather at present! Wind died down now but due to return tomorrow - and then rain for one whole week!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, well done Andy.
A very satisfying year for him.
I do know a wee bit about Alaska including 7000 years old shamans!
And the Pribilofs!
May be a bit like "Mrs Mike"?
I liked that.

Hello, Pigale,
I liked your reference to, "mainland USA".
The Alaskans call it the "lower 48".
It is minus 1C here.
Winter is upon us!
