Hi, Rusty!
Well, I read about Storm Angus on a newflash on the computer, but the BBC forecast for our area simply says heavy rain till midday, strong winds and warmer than of late.
Maybe the fears about Angus are exaggerated?
Anyway, we shall see soon enough, tomorrow.....
I saw Judy sitting all alone "in the gods", watching Andy playing.....yes, and with her wine glass in front of her, as Tim said!
It is odd, is it not, that Judy and Kim never seem to speak to each other? One never sees them sitting together?
I hadn't realised that Jamie was such a strong doubles player, as to be ranked Number One?
I always think of players of the calibre of The Woodies, or the Bryan twins... mental apologies , Jamie!
Yes, I did two of my parsings.....they were easy when I looked at them with fresh eyes!
The two still outstanding are 24a (half done) and 18d?

Hello, Elle,
Well fingers crossed the storm abates as it comes ashore.
I noticed before that Judy and Kim do not sit beside each other.
i hope they do get on.
Jamie and Bruno got beaten today but are still no 1.
18d, I have "herbage". Present = here. Appropriate = bag.
I think bag in the sense of "grab" or "appropriate".
Anne Bradford gives bag for appropriate.
24, Stroller. Street = st. Roller is a tumbling pigeon.
Not many would get that parse Elle.
You are doing very well with the prize crosswords.
Well done!

Hello, Elle,
I think the proper name is "tumbler pigeon" rather than "tumbling pigeon".

Hi, Rusty!
Djokovic won , so he faces Andy Murray tomorrow in the ATP Final!
The winner will become the World Number One.
So all to play for!
Thank you for explaining those two parsings.
I had got as far as "St" for Street and I 'd thought "roll" for tumble, but was stuck to account for the "er"!
I'd never have sorted that out!
and I couldn't see how to explain "herbage" at all - I should have got that one shouldn't I?
It's still raining! We might need a canoe tomorrow!

Hello, Elle!
Yes, I just had a look at the betting for tomorrow with Paddy P.
Djokovic is favourite.
Yes, I think you should have got the parse for herbage.
There is not many who would know a "roller" is a "tumbler pigeon" though. But Chambers does!
Are you going out in the weather tomorrow?
Like Rosalind Janney, "through the storm!"

Hi, Rusty!
So are you going to have a small bet on Novak?
I should quite like him to win!
Often, on a Sunday we go out later than usual and stay out for longer.....doing one long walk instead of two shorter ones.
In view of tomorrow's forecast, I think that is what we shall do......aim at going out around midday, when the elements are supposed to have quietened.
I liked Rosalind Janney - although technically it was her daughter's suitor who came "through the storm"!
Nyuk Tsin - the Hakka girl - is another strong female.
Do you have any plans for tomorrow?

Good morning, Elle!
How is your weather? Good test of your cobbled boots?
Has the storm hit?
Hard frost and very misty here, with a promise of sunshine to come.
No bet for me.
I only bet if I can watch the event and I don't watch the tennis.
Not fussed who wins, at all.
Yes, but it was Rosalind's phrase!
And memorable, I thought!
No plans today.
I do not like walking on icy surfaces.
I have "ice-grips" but they are only good on thick ice or hard packed snow.
Then, they are great!
May tackle Sunday Times crossword on-line, though.

Good morning, Rusty!
The storm hit last night , but was not as severe as I had expected.
Extremely windy, torrential rain and very cold.
It was a good job that we had had our trees docked...I should have feared for the copper beech otherwise.
The dog was very frightened and insisted on sleeping with us.
The cat appeared very nonchalant!
I have not yet ventured further than the garden - escorting the dog who was afraid to go out on her own!
We are planning to go out for a walk (plodge?) later - maybe midday.
Your weather sounds enviable!
But how cold is it?
(Yes, I have ice grips on my snow boots, too!)
I am about to settle down with a coffee, an apple and the Everyman!

Hello, Elle!
Coffee and an apple?
Better with Madeira cake. Comfort food!
I think your "weather" is to head for the North Sea during the day.
It is 0C here. Sun is trying to get through the mist.
Yes, you did well getting the "tree fellers" when you did.
"Ice grips" are great.
Just finished the Sunday Times crossword.
I think it is less difficult than the weekday and Saturday ones.
If I remember correctly it was the reason I stopped getting the Sunday Times.
Wonder what I shall get up to, now.

Hi, Rusty!
An apple is much healthier!
I am not very fond of cake........unless it's ginger cake or parkin!
I am two thirds the way through the Everyman - no problem - but have suddenly ground to a halt - brain non functioning - I shall put it aside for a while, and read my book.
Speaking of which......it is a really strange story...I think were it not for its being factual ( the "history" not the people; they obviously are fictitious) and we know that Mr M is faithfully reporting the morals of the time and of the various countrymen , I should have stopped reading it.
I am very glad that I read "Centennial" and "Chesapeake" first, as I might not have progressed any further than this novel, had this been my first "read".
Is this a criticism ( not really the right word?) - maybe just comment? - with which you would agree?
I am trying not to be moralistic here!
Have you thought what you shall "get up to"?
