Hello, Elle!
No, I did not see the tennis.
Watched a bit of the cycling.
Lizzie A and the Boels-Dolman girls won the World Championship Team Time Trial.
I was hoping Jo Konta would win.
She is knocking at the door though.
Emma said she keeps notes of everything, hence she has flight numbers etc written down somewhere.
She is getting into triathlons now.
The world appears to be shrinking.
What do you make of this?
In golf, Brandt Snedeker has just won the Fiji International tournament.
The Fiji International is part of the European Tour.
How can an event in Fiji be part of the European Tour?
I watched a bit of it, as I like Snedeker, but waited in vain for an explanation of Fiji/Europe.
Another mystery!

Hi, Rusty!
So Emma is getting into Triathlons?
I am not a keen fan of cycling , as you know, but I do like watching the Triathlons, especially when I can follow the Brownlee brothers' progress.
The recent events were riveting.
I know nothing about golf tournaments so cannot help you with your query?
It does though sound a little strange?
I have finished Section One of my book "The Fatal Englishman".
This is the part about Christopher (Kit) Wood - the "Painter".
I enjoyed it.
I am now into part two...about Richard Hillary, the "Pilot".
He wrote a book - it might be interesting to chase it up...."The Last Enemy"...
Have you ever heard of it?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, Emma has won triathlons and I am fairly sure she is the reigning Duathlon World Champion.
She is an active triathlete now.
Yes, this European Golf Tour is hard to comprehend.
I think I would find studying the War of the Austrian Succession a bit easier!
Or, perhaps not!
I do not think I have heard of "The Last Enemy"?
But...I looked it up.
It was also published in USA as "Falling Through Space".
The last enemy is death, I understand.
It seems to be an excellent read, I'd say?

Hi, Rusty!
Oh, thank you for looking up the book "The Last Enemy" - that is kind of you.
I hadn't thought about what - or whom - the last enemy could be - but yes, "death" does make sense.....
I think I might read it later on , once I have finished this book by Faulks.
The second section about Richard Hillary is even better than the previous part about Woods......
It would be good to read the book that Hillary has written, don't you think?
A natural progression....?
And maybe a fitting end to the biography?

Hello, Elle!
It seems a good book, but....I am not sure you would like it?
A great deal of it is about him recovering from dreadful burn injuries.
He was one of Sir Archibald McIndoe's patients.
They had a name but I forget what. The Guinea Pigs, maybe?
But there are plenty of copies on Amazon.
"Very good", World of Books, 1p.
Often, in crosswords, "time" is the enemy.
I may have a trawl through Amazon myself.
I have a gift card for £25!
I also have Miss O and La Bamba coming to see me in the morning.
They never mentioned going to Pine Cone, though.
A mystery!

Hi, Rusty!
The biography that I am reading also tells about Hillary's burns and the numerous operations and treatments that he had to undergo.
The descriptions are very graphic.
(But as I have a medical background, I do not find any of this a problem. I am not at all squeamish)
Yes, McIndoe was treating Hillary for his burns and you are right in saying that he referred to his patients sometimes as his "guinea pigs".
The "Guinea Pig Club", established in 1941, was a Social Club and support network for British and Allied aircrew injured during World War II.
Its members were all Archibald McIndoe's patients at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Sussex.
These were airmen who had undergone experimental reconstructive plastic surgery, generally after receiving burns injuries in aircraft.
I shall take a look at Amazon - I still have quite a lot of money in my account there.
That is good that Misses O and L-B are coming to see you in the morning!
You may be lucky and go to the Pine Cone for a bacon roll?

Good morning, Pigale!
That was very good!
It is amazing the wheels do not get tangled up?
I was expecting a crash!
It is a fine morning here.
Hope you have the same!

Hello Rusty,

~Fine morning here to but temperature 0C in the early hours!

I know it is incredible to watch but I cannot remember having heard of 'crashes' - I wonder if the actual wheels are protected in some way, ie covered up? Need to look it up.
