Hello readers cYOU'S that are still around
Sorry marty close but no cigar
It's simply life the Universe and everything (the origin of the Universe)
The question mark is there because it's only a theory.

You could have used "42" then - in fact, in retrospect I'm surprised that no-one did.

u as "origin" of "universe"? I was a bit closer than marty!

Hello chrise
I could have used 7×6 as the ultimate question (u?) but the point remains how could you award the prize without understanding my clue without at least asking me to parse.

Hi Fieryjack, in comparison with your submission, my entry was extremely simple. I'm happy to step aside. Life's too short to be getting into battles!

Not a tall susan chrise chose your clue and that's a "matter of fact" I was only querying the fact that chrise didn't understand my clue and never asked me to parse. How can you pick a winner without understanding all the clues??

Hi fiery
In fact, I thought that I had parsed it - as I said, I apologise that I missed the full subtlety. I also said that, with the quality before me, I wouldn't be able to make a rational decision, and would just have to go with the one I liked best.

Hi, In Chrise's defence, I often see entries I don't get. I do look carefully at the entries and often marvel at the different ways people construct their clues. I've submitted mine anyway, never having known that if I actually win, I'll be for the chop if I don't fully understand each entry before choosing a winner. Until now I've never been in a position where I need to worry! Now I am nervous of setting next week's Clueless. I wonder if it would be good for each submission to be understandable as it is and if there's a doubt, the entrant should add an explanation, rather than expect the setter to come to them for help. Just a suggestion. I feel sure the last thing Chrise would have wanted would have been to upset anyone. I've been following Clueless for ages and often don't have the confidence to enter. I hope I understand all the entries next week. I'm trembling already!

Don't worry, susan - just remember this from the preamble:

"The judge’s decision is final; reasons may or may not be given at the judge’s discretion."
