pairs possibly
1a and last down
7d and column 4 ?
row 4 and row 8 ?
so i need another to go wuth 16d .... groove doesn't seem to fit in!!!

think my pairs are wrong?

I think I'm quite happy with all my words, but struggled when it came to putting them in pairs. 'Groove' seems to work on its own, but I can't really pair it up.

Well the theme was good but the endgame of filling in the unclued not so ...

Stuck on last bit too (have 2 pairs & 2 odd).
Could the one in the 4th row be GINGER? Can't be Nigger!!!
And in row 3: I haqve R?EV?G and can make nothing of it, either for horse or car variants (anagrams of course).
ANY hint greatly appreciated!

My pairs are
1a and last down
7d and 16d
Row 8 and col 4
Rows 3 and 4.

I am happy with the first three of these pairs but the fourth seems a bit weak.

GK - the unchecked letters should be helpful, an earlier post even more so. Re 'ginger' - Chambers helped me here.
