I agree this is really, really difficult. I have too many blank spaces to ask for help either from yourselves or Quick Save but will persevere. So glad to hear that Jazzgirl has spotted a posting from Pipesmoker Perhaps he will read of our concern and contribute..

I too have found this one a lot harder than normal. Have filled in a couple thanks to the hints so far, but am totally stuck on the NE corner:

4d last 4 letters mean "cut"; I didn't think first 3 were that close for "walk steadily"; def. "field"
6d 3 letter gear, church abbr., (French) boy upwards - def. "general" (who might need you)
11a I didn't like either. Def "edit", in the sense of "remove"
12a def "he values", then anagram

Not a good RT, I thought.

11a: Think about (e.g) government documents that may be edited - 11a'd - before release.
