I thought a thread might have been started already. Still early days but I have got a fair few clues solved and got most of the top third done with a name leaping out at me on the top line from2 running west. Struggling with clue 1 where I have li-n- and am convincing myself of linns with number 90 being n n and l for length with half of is and a bit of Soap on the end but cannot think which letter to change in lathers to make sense. Then at 8 - where one must be a name- I have -a-o- running East and a diagonal -nel-. Am I on the right lines or have I made a mistake?

Now checked the final s for clue 1

Rickye: Just in case you haven't got there fully. In 1, the correct letter is only one away in the alphabet from the one to change.

Although stuck on loads of other clues I can help with those 2. Clue 1 is 'lashers'. Clue 8 is -a-o- and is an expression for getting all the tricks in a game other than Bridge! I will be back soon to ask your assistance on some of those you have obviously done but I have not!

I'm nearly there on the clue solving part but I'm stumped by 32 and 24. What can I change in Caledonian (or am I barking up the wrong tree)? And 24 is a complete mystery - perhaps its down to my total ignorance about anything sporty.

Work in progress there but p=400. Thanks for other help, friends. Been looking up the forerunner of the new statesman but it may be a blind alley, having found another name.

32, change the 'e' of 'Caledonian'. For 24, think cars, rather than sport. (and 400 can also be G)

Think I have got it all but can someone explain Clues 10, 17(second) and 19. Ta!
