Yes, I know that, Jazzy- I wasn't meaning to infer otherwise. I always welcome Ginge's help - he's explained things to me many a time and I much appreciate it. He's very clever and always kind and patient in his explanations.
I just can't agree over this particular instance.

Many thanks jazzy, if only I could have seen your expression I might assume a compliment :-), but I do hope I don't come across as pompous and I am genuinely trying to help as I appreciate from earlier threads elle is keen to progress her understanding of cryptics.
Hi chrise, I agree that would have made the clue more of an &lit but perhaps the setter was deliberately trying to mislead and I was merely trying to show this as a possibility but we all agree it does work as it stands.

You certainly don't come across as pompous, and I really DO appreciate your help! I AM keen to improve my understanding of cryptics - and I hope you'll continue to provide guidance and not be put off by my arguing!
