I'm looking at windswept for 3 down (winds=players, wept=unhappy).

Also, 42 down looks like it could be APOLLO - but still can't fathom the theme.

Good morning and a Happy New Year. I am new to posting but have benefited from everybody's thoughts. Here are mine on this crossword so far. The golf theme seems best fit - e.g. we think 1d is James McAvoy, 2d Cartwheel, 3d backswept and 4d maybe in one but that makes 1a difficult.

Happy New Year, Stewartry. Not sure about the golf theme since the Ballasteros and Bubba clues were not asterisked. I had been thinking about Jamie Oliver for 1d and he had some connection with the Commonwealth Games. Not sure about 1a eitjher

My apologies!! James McAvoy is of course a film star, not a golfer. Could 45a be film making? 44d is vision and 35 d slings hot.

for 13a (emrach) we have ???N?O???? possibly but ideas yet.

Morning Stewartry

Thanks Do you have 21 down there have been a few suggestions but not 100% sure. Now this is out there but if 29ac starts with a D then disunify fits and then 1ac could be Jacobites so perhaps the referendum is the theme !!!!!!!
