Do you, by any Chance Jazzie, have a DUNCE's cap by any chance.???! I really deserve one this week. With your (plus other) help, I assumed I could stop chewing my pen (Yeuch!)..sadly I've realised I've a further two 'to go'..i.e.- 4d & 8a...! Your sympathy is very much appreciated.!

Hi Raymond
4d is a name of an opening. If you remove one of the middle letters you get a beetle that is a homophone of the opening.
8a I go wrong first, not realising there were two different spellings. The wrong spelling means "one over par" in golf; the other is the undercarriage.

hi again Raymond
I found this week's very tricky. The RT crossword clues never used to be as obscure as some of these recent ones. I have just been helping a friend (who has just reached 70) complete his first photo driving licence application. What a palaver. I also need a lie down.

I completed mine two months ago, Jazzgirl!
I found it straightforward enough?

hi rusty
I thought it would be straightforward, but we found he could not do it online for various reasons. His passport was about 30 years old for starters. He had also lost certain documents etc. but we got there in the end. It was interrupted somewhat by a very lively dog licking my elbow throughout or tearing round the lounge. ;)
