14 looks like it ought to be MARBLES, but there are a couple of problems - it doesn't fit your letters, and I don't see what "colours" has to do with it.

14 a Element 10 - (6) I have m?l?e? - if correct I am thinking 'molten' - Mo (element) and ten (in clue) but this leaves 'l' unexplained. Help.

The word is in Chambers so is English derived from French.
