I entered this discussion because I thought it might be molten but agree that mo + ten leaves an l. I know the word Keith is referring to and think it may be correct but since does not like to give his answer ( no criticism) I won't either. Good Luck.

I too know the French word adopted into English and think it correct. However I could validate MOLTEN if really pressed. MO = molybdenum; a chemical element.
Read the clue as element to the left (L) of 10 to get
MO L TEN = MOLTEN; but I think this too devious even for Myops.
