I had some time today to tackle your fiendish selection. More enjoyable than the crossword it did on my morning commute.

My suggestions are:


1. HANSOM CABS.

Han (Chinese native) scabs (blacklegs) with om inside (order of merit).

2. ILLUMINATI.

The Enlightened is definition. Initial (high is an anagram indicator) surrounds Lum a chimney or a smoker!

3 WHEEL CLAMP

A day when trading is slow on NYSE.

A pun it is where a coffin nail would be found and fits with the rest of the sentence.
