Good old ab! 'setting' indeed.
Welcome Aei, rusty and trevor. Thanks for all the good wishes. I'll enjoy the break (I'll try to resist it Ari).
And, Ari - I happen to have an Oxford Concise Dict on my computer WITH pronunciations. Just click on the loudspeaker symbol and the word is pronounced. I played Jewel and duel just now. Yep! They're homonyms.
I'll append my working this time:-
1. cryptic. HANDS UP
2. double (I rarely use this type of clue) going down (like the sun, say) = SETTING = accessories to cover one person at the table.
3. homophone (to catch) of “jewels” (rocks) = DUELS = struggles (from Chambers Dict)
4. (cryptic) SPANISH CUSTOMS = restrictive practices by workers (adapted from Chambers def)
5. Mary Jane = marijuana = pot; shy = toss; TOSSPOT = a foolish person (Chambers def)
Hope you all have a wonderful summer.
Bless
J
