Josephine44, the first part of 10ac is a seven letter word defined by "symbolic system". The first part is a shortened version of the Italian word for "gentleman" followed by an American word for "never". In the second part you have to use an alternative word for "America".
I still can't get the second part of 11A. The only word that works for me is "ammo" but that's obviously incorrect.

Thanks barretter.

11a is a short word for what you might get in the winter which sounds like a word with one extra letter, which has a more obscurely means flat. Most often associated with a chimney.

Sorry barretter. In the process of finding phrase, I realize I misled you. It is not the chimney but another homonym of the winter virus.

I am quite new to the Listener but thanks to all the useful hints above I've finished this apart from top left. I found the sidekick quite quickly, then the sobriquet on the rhs, also the three word phrase and eventually the top line but am really stuck on the shape clues starting:
Intrigued, outside type, on the radio, modern-day and take a wide pasture.
Any help gratefully received! Rather appropriately I'm in Spain at the moment and not sure I want to fork out 4€ for another one like this!

Intrigued (def) : soul in "dialled"
outside type : def outsize, other misp zero
on the radio : fine rain
modern-day : RANT, but that's the one I couldn't understand
take a wide pasture : posture / bolter, hush being 'st'

I hope the hints aren't too obtuse - if so, ask again.
