Although I use the Forum for one crossword at present, I would like to widen my experience in the future. One way of doing this is to look at the various ‘calls for help’ and see if I can answer them - or even understand the answers given! I could then have a look at the whole puzzle to see if it suits.

However, there is a problem because it is often difficult or impossible to find out the official name of the puzzle or where it is published. Some of the Topic headings in the Forum seem to assume that we all know the abbreviations or acronyms being used. We don’t!

In the last day or so there has been one thread headed LEP (local), another entitled Genius 132, one called Help and another called Dam Thursday! Of course, there are always numerous ‘DM’s or variations of it.

I am not ‘having a go’ at other subscribers, just asking for them to be a bit clearer and more specific in detailing which puzzles they are referring to. It would also help if we could know if the puzzle is online or not.

In an ideal world and I know it’s a cheek, wouldn’t it be wonderful if ‘admin’ issued a list of ‘approved’ abbreviations/acronyms?

I’m sure this has already been mentioned before but as an old schoolmaster used to say to me, “If a thing’s worth saying, it’s worth saying several times”

Kenyatta, if you don't understand the answers which are given, why not ask?
I am fairly certain someone will explain how the answer comes about.
