Evening folks,

I've had a good look through and I understand most of the clues but need a few pointers to parses before I can pick the winner.

aristo POST 9. I see the def and the 'und' - I also can see a 'C' (about) and 'a' but - The nest egg escapes me

ginge POST 11. I'm thinking this may be a ghost, unfortunately can't solve it though, help!

bbm POST 12, Can see most of it but 'accidentally fires' isn't ringing any bells yet

Therogue POST 16. Can see the partial anag (Cunard) but struggling to find the 'i'

Could you guys please get back to me if possible, OR, anyone else can help if you're awake and have worked them out.
Back soon, Les40

Hi les a "ND" is a negligent discharge of a weapon and the charge brought on the serviceman who committed it.

It's pretty widely known by people from that particular background though I grant you not exactly common knowledge.

Cheers Marty

Hi Les it's not a "ghost" and if I'd used "central characters" instead of "protagonists" I'm sure you'd have spotted it right off (I find "initially", "origins",
" hearts", "conclusions" etc to identify letter(s) of clue words too obvious) and you can decide if you think it's valid, it certainly wasn't obvious you must admit.

Definition: Quick-tempered
Protagonists = Central Characters
cha(ir)men f(ac)e red(und)ant

Cheers.

Hi Les
Re aristo @ 11, nest egg = Individual Retirement Account = I.R.A. + c (about) + 1/4 (und)erwritten

Les: An IRA is an individual retirement account. I know it isn't in Chambers, but it's an everyday, ubiquitous term in the US. If you google it you'll get thousands of hits.

Hi again Les.
That should obviously have been aristo @ 9

Re therogue, I took the line to represent a capital "i"

Thanks, ginge. And I didn't know that "burnt up" in this sense was an Americanism till I saw it Chambers.

Cheers guys, I did look for IRA in the Chambers and you're right, it isn't there, sorry for dismissing it, never heard it before.

Ginge, I should have seen the central characters which I do have to say, is a slight ghost ref for me but a good one.
BBM, I've never heard the term before, again, I'm sorry for missing it.

Therogue's 'i' for 'line' can't be accepted I feel because 'line' is used for a lower case 'l' opposed to a capital 'L' and never a 'i' or its capital, sorry therogue, maybe I'll get pulled for it but I'm pretty certain i'm correct on that one.

I'll be back in a bit guys, I'm struggling to pick a winner cus of all the clever and differing wordplays this week. I'll do my best, see ya soon

Hi aristo, hope you didn't mind me parsing on your behalf. I only did so as you mentioned on "jolan" that you were having a lot of trouble accessing this site.

And I still am, ginge. I tried to post several times before it worked; I kept losing the site.
