Good morning friends. Hope the week went well. We had lovely weather in North Wales but, after heavy thunder last evening, it's very wet, dark and dreary-looking today. Here are today's clues. Hope they amuse and test. J

I set clues just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few? Since they're new, no letters!

Please withhold solutions till 5 pm (GMT + 1) to allow others to have a go.

1. Deputy Dog finally settled (8)

2. Contrived to be top prison (5)

3. Subtly begin to boast about oneself down under (3-4)

4. A hoax about party returns (3)

5. Light like a flowered material of silk and wool (6)

Hi Jolan, no golf today, weather awful, so I can spend some time on your clues. I think I've got 1, 2 and 4 but I've been wrong before!!

'Morning Andy! It's certainly not a golfing day. I must try to get a few jobs done around the house. I'll peek in from time to time.I tried to keep 'em short (@ sweet?) today.

Good morning jolan
The weather here is dry and pleasant and I will be in and out of the garden. At first read-through I have just #4

Yes, it seems very quiet today. I've got 5 answers that seem to make sense but can't parse 2 of them at all really.

Yes Andy! I've noticed that too. Maybe there's a strike on? :)

Just checking in now, Jolan. Not making much progress, and not sure of answers I've come up with. Have to go back out and may not be back in time. Beautiful here, in the 70s F, sunny and breezy.

ChrisE is away on holiday.

I think I have an answer for #5 but am unable to see the first def. in chambers so it's probably wrong
