Hmm.... finished it but don't understand how to apply the sentence in the special instruction.

I've only got four to do, but the message, apart from the last two words. is not clear. The problem is that cryptic crossword clues add words to mislead you anyway, so one is never clear which word to remove.

simond9x, I wonder if you have 12a correct - I struggled until I changed one letter, then all became clear! Don't rush to complete, the site isn't accepting submissions anyway (or not mine at least).

dizoz, I started with 14a; There are 2 words in the clue with the same initial letter - to my mind, either can safely be removed and leave a reasonably straightforward clue. Hope this might get you started.

Actually, I now see that one of those words is needed, but my hint should still help!

Ah, suddenly got it thanks!!!

Game (noun) is the definition. Think of a word for athletic and put it round a maths unknown and the other 3 letters will become clear.

I've finished but am short of one operation, none of the other possibles make real words. Anyone else found the same?

Maybe got it, if one word when changed becomes two?
