How lovely to "se" Jg, Ari, Andy and Chris on days other than Tuesday.

Back from the surgery. The nurse commented "spot-on" for the BP (140/74). The weather is poor out there, NW gale and rain.

#5 would be, by far, the most difficult since the definition doesn't really appear in the clue.

~3 is just a 'charade' and 'a definition' does appear in the clue.

You must grant me pardon for 'stringing this out for so long. It's really a very rare occasion for me.

I'll put in a letter or two later.

:))

I'm starting to feel a bit guilty now.

I'm trying to find a hint to #3 but if I put in any ?'s the solution jumps out from any wildcat word-finder.
I wonder if I could use it to defend myself?

In #5, capacity = cc. Party returning to bar?

Trying for some further tips when I've noticed that putting ANY ?'s in for #5 into a word-finder (like Chambers Dictionary, immediately brings up the exact solution.

So, how about "shoes" for part of the solution to #5 (the solution has nowt to do with shoes, of course)

I think the parsing is
CC = capacity
hold back party = reversed = revel
Blocks = Logs
C lever C logs
Newton being a clever clogs
