Brackendale - could you fully parse 'Double spaced' apart from the obvious - ie that the word 'spade' is double spaced?

Apart from the obvious, as you say, I haven't worked out how "spade" fits in - it is the only clue in this crossword I have yet to work out but it is work in progress - I may be back!

It's an anagram of 'SPADE could be'

Took me a while to spit why the word SPADE needed to be used
