I have completed everything but don't understand 38A.
Any hints gratefully received.

I thought I had this one done and dusted, but a friend has suggested an alternative answer to one of the four works - the person's final work of 1976 represented by the grid entry at 22 across. (It would replace the answer bottom left which has the same number of letters). It looks quite plausible, but the four I already have seem equally plausible or perhaps more so. Are we looking at a genuine alternative answer or just a red herring?

Escuan - I would ignore 22A. The GARDEN isn't necessarily a F***** P*** in my opinion (for what it's worth!)

Actually I agree with unclued and cloverjo, but the thought did unsettle me for a while.

and once again stuck on theme, but thanks to this thread just completed, would love to know what work the down missing letters indicate though, I only had 3 letters LAU ?

I had a Y where you have U. I think there is a D that is hard to spot. I think it's in 5 d.
