I've finished this but there are a few answers where I can't see the full parsing....

13a. Season with tons enthralled by acting exuberantly in lead (10) - WINTERTIME (Season)

14a. Cheerful sentimentality turned into fine novel (8,4) - BRIGHTON ROCK (Novel) I see 'Cheerful' = BRIGHT but not much else.

40a. Lead bludgeon smashed around inspector's head may be it's cause (6,6) - SEEING DOUBLE (May be it's cause) It's an anagram of 'BLUDGEON' around I(nspector), but that leaves SEE for 'Lead' which doesn't seem right.

Thanks Trevor. Hi Les. I thought of See as Diocese but the Def. is - The official seat, center of authority, jurisdiction, or office of a bishop. - I just don't see (Ha! Pun) how that' equates to 'Lead'.

Maybe, but I just think the both those definitions seem really 'loose'. I think I'll go to bed and look at it, and the remaining clue, afresh tomorrow. Thanks again Trevor, thanks Les.
